Service to the World

Our hearts are deeply troubled by the recent events in Ukraine. Read a recent Situation Report from LWR HERE to learn about the humanitarian crisis unfolding. The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) estimates over 4 MILLION Ukrainians have been displaced by the violence occurring. Thanks be to God that organizations like Lutheran World Relief began mobilizing to give aid as soon as the conflict began! And we can help! Now through Easter, we are collecting items to make Care Kits for Ukrainian Refugees to be distributed through Lutheran World Relief.

Making Lutheran World Relief Kits is a simple and tangible way to offer comfort to those suffering and express love to our neighbors in need. LWR Kits are specifically designed to help people coping with poverty, disaster, conflict and more. LWR Kits provide dignity and hope in the direst situations.

We will be making Personal Care Kits and Baby Care Kits. Whether you're able to donate one or two items, or enough for a complete kit, every donation is a blessing to a refugee in need during this time of turmoil. Donations can be left under the display table in our Narthex (Lobby). See below for needed items. Please follow guidelines listed and in the provided instruction sheets. There are specifics that can stop kits from being able to cross customs if not followed.

 

Each Kit Includes
  • ONE light-weight bath-size towel 
    (between 20” x 40” and 52” x 27”), dark color recommended
  • TWO or three bath-size bars of soap equaling 8 to 9 oz., any brand, in original wrapping
  • ONE adult-size toothbrush in its original packaging - Toothbrush multi-packs may be used by sealing an individual toothbrush in a business-size envelope; no plastic bags or wrap
  • ONE sturdy comb, remove packaging
  • ONE metal nail clippers (attached file optional), remove packaging

 

 

Each Kit Includes
  • TWO lightweight cotton t-shirts (no Onesies ®)
  • TWO long- or short-sleeved gowns or sleepers (without feet)
  • TWO receiving blankets, medium-weight cotton or flannel, or crocheted or knitted with lightweight yarn, between 36” and 52” square
  • FOUR cloth diapers, flat fold preferred
  • ONE jacket, sweater or sweatshirt with a hood, or include a baby cap
  • TWO pairs of socks
  • ONE hand towel, dark color recommended
  • TWO or three bath-size bars of gentle soap equaling 8 to 9 oz., any brand, in original wrapping; no mini or hotel size bars
  • TWO diaper pins or large safety pins

Have extra T-Shirts in good condition? Make baby gowns and/or diapers from them!
Patterns are simple and easy to sew.

 

You can also GIVE MONETARILY

and provide food, shelter and emergency funds for refugees impacted by the Ukraine crisis. Now, through Easter, our gift will be matched up to 422k!

  • Mail your check to Lutheran World Relief, PO Box 17061, Baltimore, MD 21297-1061. Please write “Ukraine Match” in the memo line.
  • Gifts can also be made through our congregation. Make check out to Pilgrim Lutheran Church and write “Ukraine Match” in the memo line, drop it in the offering plate and we will send one check from the church immediately following Easter Sunday.

- Concordia Gospel Outreach

During our 2021 Vacation Bible School, we raised money for our mission project through CGO. Mission: Papua New Guinea is an outreach project that sends books about God’s love to kids in Papua New Guinea. Our donation helped send copies of 101 Bible Stories, My First Catechism, and other books to children in need of the Gospel.
